for extra security i wanted to have a halogen light that would be very noticeable and pretty powerful to quickly light up my yard if someone intrudes.

i searched the web and found a battery handheld halogen light that charges from a car or your home. it is 500,000 candlepower so is very bright. it can go for 30 solid minutes (which i will only use it for shorter blasts) on a charge or can be connected to your car for longer use.

it is $22!!!! you won't find anything comparable in the stores--or at least i couldn't and for even close to the price. you can order it from www.directsalesinc.com. just look under power inverters; then the boat/rv accessories for the handheld portable halogen light.

Umm, Target stores has a sale on 1,000,000 candlepower rechargeable spotlights (really good ones) for $17 or so. I have 2 now and am just going out to get 2 more (and other stuff).

are they the kind that store a charge and can operate without being connected to a power source? the only ones i could find in the store required a connection. i wanted battery op for portability. will go and check it out. you can never have enough LIGHT!!

But those 500,000-1.000,000 candle-power lights will use up juice drastically. I bought two several years ago after buying a "new" place in the mountains. Enjoyed seeing some night creatures. (Never saw the bear though, maybe we didn't want to surprise that one!) Recharging the battery with the cigarette lighter adapter for the light is not easy. You will lose current from storage battery to inverter to converter to charge the portable battery. Those lights are "overkill" in my view. I just bought another Maglight last night at Costco.
