Does anyone know how to make snowshoes?greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread |
I've seen the metal and plastic ones sell for well over $125, and the wood & rawhide ones for about $100. I'd like to save a little money and make my own - does anyone know of any info on how to build a pair, please? (I'm really interested in the rawhide lacing part...)Thank you!

Hi Deb,A looong time ago I went to a snowshoe making course, and finally had some passable snowshoes using about $20 worth of materials and 30 hours of my time. :)
So ... I'm thinking of ordering some from The Sportsman's Guide for $80 or $100 (depending on size). They have some emergency snowshoes for $20 (and some high-end snowshoes for $150).

Dean,Hello and thanks. I've just ordered a pair of Tubbs snowshoes from LL Bean (on sale for $79.00!!!). They're the aluminum & neoprene style, so I'm interested to see how they work.
