Looking for leads on an NBC-TV story about a secret list of high risk terrorist targets.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I saw a story on my local NBC affiliate here in CT late last night that I'm trying to find out more about. Looking for leads...

The reporter was describing a secret list generated by some federal agency of events that were considered to be at high risk for terrorist attack. It had been "obtained by NBC news", and allegedly listed either 8 or 100 risky events (confusing reporter). OPSAIL 2000 in CT next July was on the list and was the focus of the story.

At one point a grainy graphic of a photocopied page of events was shown onscreen for maybe 5 seconds. Two jumped out: Millennium celebrations in Washington DC and Times Square NY.

This sounded like a big breaking story, but now I can't find a peep about it anywhere. Has anyone seen anything like this anywhere?

Remember, it's about a specific leaked list. Reports about domestic terrorism attacks abound, and are vitally important to the Y2K recovery. After the FBI's response to the hoax Times Squre video, I'm curious if the story is being squashed. (BTW, I found the FBI's heavy-handed response MUCH more interesting than the actual video.)

Anyway- keep an eye peeled.

I saw it for a few seconds as well.

I saw: New Year's celebration in Times Square, the Super Bowl, and I think a couple of big college bowl games (Rose Bowl?).

Don't need no stinkin' (government) list. Potential targets are obvious.

Thanks cbgbjr, at least I know I wasn't hallucinating. (it was a looong day...)

A, you're right, the targets are not hard to spot. Still, I'd like to see it. I'm also very interested in whether or not the story was suppressed.

Lewis,

Did you find any more on this?

A good site to try for related info is the Federation of American Scientists. They follow those kinds of topics.

The search engine is working again. Start with key words like: high risk event terrorism and take it from there.

Good luck.

(Too tired to "dig" tonight!)
