New York City O.E.M. Center

Also called "The Bunker"

I just watched a piece on the local NBC station about NYC's emergency command center, on the 23rd floor of 7 World Trade Center. The story was the lead, and took up an unprecedented 10 minutes of the newscast. In fact, it led the Republican debate.

Bottom line, it seems like there was some impropriety involved, it is located in a building owned by a large Giuliani campaign contributor. Many people were interviewed, including former Mayor Koch and fromer police commish Bratton, who all thought the location, cost, and mere presence of "the bunker" is ridiculous.

The story also looked at Los Angeles, which has declared a state of emergency 13 times, and the fact that they built a bunker in a city building at much less cost. The New York bunker was speculated to be a big barrel of pork, built to assuage the mayor's ego and control freakiness. It cost 13 million to build, and rent for the next 20 years will be 28 million. Of course Giuliani and Deputy Mayor Lohta (Mara, remember him from the "Community Conversation"?) poo-pooed the whole thing.

I hope they don't get their money's worth...

Heh, guess they'll have to walk down 16 flights each time they gotta piss.

No Hokie, just pop out a window.

Patrick, I am not sorry in the least to hear that Guilliani is getting some sand kicked in his face. He is not my favorite person in the world. In fact, I don't like him! For sure, he is all ego and a bully. But that's my opinion...

Yeah, lots of money to build a 13 million dollar bunker, but not one red cent for the homeless for better shelters. Couldn't even let Mother Teresa help NYC out. Glad I got out of that rattrap 4 years ago.

Let me see...

Guilliani or Hillary...

Hillary or Guilliani...

Good luck with your choices in the Big Apple, er, what choices.

The sick thing for me, is that as disgusting as I find him, I would MUCH rather have Giuliani elected to the Senate from New York than Hillary, so much so, that I would probably even vote him. He really is a New Yorker, and would work to get resources to the state. I also believe that his ego is such that he wouldn't be able to "play fair with the other kids" and would probably do a lousy job, get fruatrated, and pick up his marble and go home. I know that he really doesn't want to go to Washington, he refused a big Justice Dept. job there in the past. I actually think that he would have LESS power in the Senate than he does as mayor, and therefore could do less damage.

Hillary, on the other hand, WANTS to be entrenched in Washington, and is willing to carpetbag her way into the Senate. I never have and never will trust that woman, because she is all agenda. She doesn't give a damn about New Yorkers, and most likely just wants to try to leapfrog her way back into the White House. If she pulls of a Senate bid, that may give her the confidence to try to run for the presidency in '04 or '08, and that MUST NOT HAPPEN!

I truly dislike voting for "lesser of two evils" candidates, but I think in this case, Giuliani fits that. If elected, he would fall on his face, whereas she wouldn't...
