Are anyone else's computers taking more time to bring up websites?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

My computer which is a Pentium II seems to take longer and longer to get in any website. Everything comes in so slow more and more. Is it the traffic. Certain times of the day is worse. I am certainly no expert on computers. But it is getting so slow lately. I can't get Realauteo hardly at all anymore. would appreciate some answers.

Sounds like your ISP is not giving you the service you are paying for. I suggest you complain to your ISP, you may just need to use a different dial up number.

Good Luck

The Internet is becoming so gridlocked with heavy traffic that it is really becoming obvious with delays such as what you speak of. Internet use is growing at such a phenomenal rate that available bandwidth is being inundated. Rumor is that there is a second Internet under construction (someone help me please) to alleviate this gridlock. I have nothing firm on this second e-highway but I have heard talk of such on media.

Anyway, this is what you are seeing, IMHO. Facts are the Internet is growing at 15%+ annually. This estimate was actually last years figure and is probably higher now and is probably seeing exponential growth as time passes. Evidence of it's growth is on advertising. You see more and more businesses daily advertise a dot com address. They are seeing the near future and want a piece of it.

Strange you should mention it, but our ISP here in Bermuda was just granted a wireless licence yesterday. Today, for the 1st time, they couldn't connect outside of the island. We were down over an hour, and when I called tech support I was told it was a "problem up the pike somewhere,it's really bizaare". The irony of it was that I was here reading posts and was in the midst of submiting a reply. Go figure.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate your info. I rather thought that was the problem too much traffic. Thanks again and God Bless

The 'Internet II' will be for the govt. and research institutions only.

and Internet III will be for all.

I think the timeline is around 10 years from now when we will all be using it, systems around the world are gradually being converted to the new protocols as we speak. It won't be for another few years before this starts in earnest.

You also might want to think about the fact that more and more folks ARE using RealPlayer for video and audio and this sucks up much bandwidth. That'll slow things down for everyone on your internet service provider (ISP)

Hey, look at the bright side. If the world remains relatively intact after next year, there will be some fantastic investment opportunities in companies that sell products that will increase bandwith on the weg: new chips, fiber optics, networking stuff, etc.
