Question about New or Upcoming Virusesgreenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread |
I've read that the potential for new and deadly viruses to hit during the rollover is very high. Is there a site or article that describes this situation a little more clearly or in depth?

Familyman:See http://www.mcafee .com/viruses/explorezip.pak/
This recent alert is simply an old virus packaged in a new and threatening way.

I should have added that the specific virus mentioned above is in no way related to Y2K other than its appearance at this time (i.e. it is not date-triggered).But it is real and yet another pain in the side of network system administrators.
There has been a lot of speculation that mal-intentioned programmers would unleash a higher than usual round of viruses to celebrate 2000.
I can't say we are seeing any increase yet at our location - we deal with viruses regularly here ("Whaddaya mean "I disabled virus scanning on my machine" ??!!!)

Arnie:Thanks. I was just curious. I'm guessing we won't know what the damage is until Jan 3rd. When everyone "might" return to work.
