'EVERYTHING IS TRUE EXCEPT THE FACTS': Malcolm Muggeridge

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Former British commie sympathizer, later correspondent for the Manchester Gaurdian, etc., later Catholic and confidante of Mother Theresa, said this about the 20th century. I've always kept it in mind, and find it never more applicable than now. A good "filter" for reading most everything these days ......

Love to see Muggeridge quoted, but he was no commie sympathiser. He was the first Western journalist to expose starvation in Stalin's Russia. His inlaws, Sydney & Beatrice Webb, were Fabians but Muggeridge himself spoke often of "the great liberal death wish." I have written an extensive profile of Muggeridge in the new Canadian magazine, The Wealthy Boomer (details: www.wealthyboomer.com)

I stand to be corrected. I could have sworn he described himself in that very light, however, somewhere in Chronicles of Wasted Time. No time to doublecheck now. Gotta go. Tanks.

I mean, thanks.
