Diesel Fuel Questions

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Hi to everyone. I'm one of those lurkers, who have been silently, anxiously, and sometimes humourously watching things here since mid-98. Eveytime i'd get ready to ask something or respond one of you folks have beat me too it. thanks to all the regulars....

So now we're moved out of the city to our safe place, and gotten as much of our preps as possible, and still more to go. I vacillate between a 6 to a 10, depending on ? who knows what? intiution? delusion?

In any event, down in our new basement is a tank full of oil. Number 2 diesel oil I have just discovered. I am just about to construct a good diesel gen setup, and it occurered to me , say, is that fuel suitable for a diesel engine. Surely it isn't the same ? octane ? as the fuel I'd use in a truck, but is it suitable for my small 5 hp gen setup. Would it screw up things , or would it just run with less ompah? Anyone know?

Best of luck to everyone who has listened.

#2 is also known as #2 heating oil, and it works well as a diesel fuel. suggest you stick some PRI-D in it....see

James......

#2 Heating oil and Diesel fuel are the same. The only difference is heating oil has a dye added. Should you get caught using dyed fuel in a truck, the fines by both state and fed. gov. would wreck havac on your preps.

Yup, same stuff, consider yourself lucky. Get going on the diesel generator. People illegally burn it in their diesel trucks around here to avoid paying the road tax.
