Let's refute the Oprah Show

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

It may seem like it is too late to make a difference, but I think it could still be useful to take every point made on the Oprah show and show with good solid backup arguments where the show misled people and then send it to Oprah asking for a followup show using qualified people to debate the issue. I doubt it would happen, but there is always hope. I realize that there is already a wealth of info out there to refute what was done on the show, but some of it is dated. We need up to date verifiable information. It may be too much to ask, but could we get some experts on various fields to do that?

I'm afeared that to plan and put together a show like that, if she would, would take more than the 30 days left. By then, we'll ALL be experts!

Rush Limbaugh was just discussing the Oprah show and took the position that what was being said was not reassuring. He has assiduously avoided discussing this topic so it is a bit of a breakthrough for him to be discussing it.

Of course, he usually is sceptical of anything coming out of Washington, so his position is not unusual in that regard.

The venue refuted itself. It denied its own accuracy by the choice of witnesses to the facts.

Sent her an e-mail.

At this timing, it's simply too late.

Next year... perhaps she can report on Y2K recovery. Or not.

Lessons.

An interesting tidbit Rush L. played was the Sectretary of ????? saying you should have batteries and also ".... people should have clothes."

Very insightful !!!!!!

You can start by sending her a copy of the most recent Senate Report (Nov 22) wherein our Government admits to problems that will hurt people.

You know, Air Traffic Control, unemployment checks, Govt pension checks, aid to dependent families, etc. Just a few minor details that she left out of her media love f

That's love fest.

What did you think I typed?

just wondering -

That's interesting. Last I heard re Y2K from Mr. Limbaugh (admittedly many months ago) was that it was a complete non-issue and that no one needed to be concerned at all. Typical Macintosh user - they think that all computers are as easy to use as their own color-coordinated beauty.

And before any Mac fans out there try to climb my frame, please know that I owned one of the very first "skinny Macs" back in '84 and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. So calm down, I'm on your side, OK? 8-}]

People should have clothes. Warm clothes. And plenty of them as we might not get imports for a while. I have enough shoes now for about 10 years.

Limbaugh has changed his tune on Y2k and is now a quiet GI. Seems the more Clinton said "no problem" the more he realized something stinky was being covered up. Too bad he didn't "get it" last year.

--hey Mac! I still got a 512, a se, a lc, a quadra 640, and a powermac(no more dineros for a g4 or nuthin sexy)(oh well, gotta admit to a 486, too, but the 286's and 386's went OUT to the curb in the trash! heheheh). I was a "get it" on y2k pretty quick, ESPECIALLY when I found out intel and Macro$cam were lying through their teeth about compliancy several years ago. i thought about the zillions of non y2k compliant "new" pc's and peecee based networks in bizland and said "We are screwed royal!" pretty funny, huh? weird way to get "revenge" on all the pc'ers, this y2k stuff. wish it had never happened, tho.....and yer right, mac boards I goto have a huge population of pollys, but it's about the same on the pc tech boards, too. Let some dood spring his lil clock on his pee weewee cee in the corner of the screen forward, nuthin happens, well TA DA there's no y2k probs! see? lookee right here! and that's it, far as they look. Pretty lamer, for supposedly hip d00dz............methinks the "think-they're-hip" d00dz spend a lil too much time on DOOM and LARA and nukin each other than finding out whuts going on in the reel whirrled

I'm not counting on Oprah to save the world, and if you are then you must be even dumber than she is.
