PORNO PICTURES IN THREADS

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Recently a friend showed me this forum, and having followed Y2K for 18+ months, I was glad to be able to read and post to comments by other seriously interested, intelligent people. However, today, my interest changed to disgust. As I was reading one thread, I found a really disgusting porno video frame. If I wanted to get into a porno site, I'm sure I'd have not trouble finding one. Since I don't, I certainly didn't think I'd find it here, amongst mostly serious discussion subjects. Perhaps it doesn't bother anyone else, but I think it unconscionable for anyone to post such filth on this forum.

Kenin,

The current sysops have been working very hard to maintain a forum that's both open and diverse, while retaining a reasonable level of decorum and civility -- and as far as I know, they haven't had to deal with any porno postings since I turned the keys over to them in May.

The last episode that I recall dealing with was roughly a year ago. I can assure you, Kenin, that the sysops are pretty vigilant, and will delete this as soon as they see it ... but sysop duties are an entirely voluntary, unpaid (and often thankless) activity that has to be squeezed in with whatever semblance of a normal life they try to maintain. As a result, there may be periods of a few minutes, to a few hours, before they log in to pick up the "trash alert" messages from other, more civilized forumites.

Deleting.

Kenin, this is the first time in a couple years that I have ever seen this happen. It's probably some polly trying to mess up this board again. Who knows why they like to hang around and cause trouble, it's a mystery to me. Of course, it could be some punks dropping in to cause trouble for some entertainment value. Just ignore it, and believe me, this is a freak occurance.

Kenin,

I've been visiting this board for over a year and a half and I would find the posting of such material disgusting as well. I didn't see this video frame you refer to but I am sure that the sysops would have deleted it ASAP if told.

If you run across such material in the future can you please email the sysops at y2ktimebomb2000@yahoo.com and make them aware of such material so it can be handled promptly.

Thanks,

Mike

Kenin- This is not normal. I've already alerted the sysop by email.

Think we got them all, plus a troll's ISP.

Thanks for all the alerts. Any more?

(Yep. Thanks Ed).

While porno is definitely not applicable to this site (except as a survival and barter item) :-), why get your panties or skivvies in a bunch about it? If the religious wackos wouldnt't make such a big deal about it, there would be no "need" for someone to be "cute" and post it here.

Good job Diane! Thanks for the hard work. I guess the polly trolls have now moved from disruptive comments to trying to sabotage this forum via offensive pictures. Just another reason to hold them in contempt.

I just wrote to Kenin's e-mail, in case he had the "alert me" feature turned off.

Hmmmm.... I ran into this once on a commodity forum. I traced HER, and posted her Real name, Real address, real phone#,,, and real e-mail addy....... :-)

Kenin...

Shit happens...

Has anyone ever seen "Kenin" post before? Perhaps I'm being cynical but I would think it an unusual coincidence if the first time he posted were in reference to this incident. Maybe the friend who showed him this forum was the one who put up the porn and they are working as a team?

-- Haw (flyin@high.again), November 30, 1999.

I thought the same thing, Haw. Stinks to high heaven.

-- I smell (a@rat.too), November 30, 1999.

Foul Cynics!!!

No way would the guy use his real name and e-mail! He'd hide behind another fake one like mine. Hold your head up high, Kenin.

SH,

Kenin was only one part of the little game, he didn't have to be the one who put the pictures up! They work as a team trying to shut the forum down, get it?

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), November 30, 1999.

You can go to Yahoo right now and have a new e-mail address in less than 5 minutes, using totally fake name and street address information.

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), November 30, 1999.

Dude, I can personally assure you that such occurrences are exceedingly rare. I am ALWAYS on the lookout for such breaches of forum decorum, and am always disappointed to note how fast our SYSOPS remove the offending material.

-- King of Spain (madrid@aol.cum), November 30, 1999.

Squirrel Hunter,

Aren't you the guy that posted the well-hung squirrel with the really big nuts? The animated GIF somehow crashed the TB2000 page and that post was removed.

The same is true of Hotmail. Since I am from Yugoslavia, I go back to the MSN UK home page." everytime I log off. It's a good site for Americans to use when looking for UK- specific links.

K.O.S. --I second that, they are quick on the trigger -- I didn't get to see the offending post mentioned above (sniff, snuffle).

BTW, I'm glad to see that many of you, if not most, have a sense of humor about the subject, and are not ranting right-wingers obsessively concerned that "smut" is the cause and/or result of the downfall of our civilization (such as it is/was).
