Oprah should be ashamed!

(Yes, this sickening display of ...kissing to the big boys deserves several posts. Disgusting and disheartening.....)

Just watching Oprah and it's the same old crap full of govt and top executive BS. Panic is the problem, we are all "ready" (compliant never used), no need to do much of friggin anything except this mythical/univeral 3 day storm that they all say is 99.5 % sure of not really arriving anyway. This show sucked! Not a single viewpoint that points out the problems. No quoting the Senate reports, GAO reports, Navy concerns, etc. etc. Oprah's producers and Oprah should be ashamed for such feelgood reportingmight as well've been produced by Kosky..

I hate to say this, but that show was so bad, I think even Kosky could have done a better job.

This was spin city of the slickest type and really shameful and disgusting. Talk about whoring.

-- Mara (MaraWayne@aol.com), November 29, 1999.

It doesn't matter how we feel, what the polls show, what the corporate/government spinners say or do about Y2k. Computers don't care. They just execute the code..working or not.

while i was working i had oprah's show in the background. after the show my girlfriend called me and we decided to do a bit more of preping. 99.99% ready is a far cry from 100% in my book as i have no idea what can the meager.001% bring.

The truly great thing to recognize is that no matter what is said and by whom, you folks won't swallow it. It either shows that you have the courage of your convictions or that you have block heads. Here was a show that had each industry represented by leaders, These leaders talked about remediation and money spent to correct problems. Still, you cry 'spin' and 'conspiracy'.

Thankfully, it's only 31 days till we know for sure if all of those bunkers you've built, all that ammo you've stored and all that venomous hatred you've accrued really was worth it.

I'm betting it wasn't.

-- Bad Company (johnny@shootingstar.com), November 29, 1999.

OK, here was the kicker. When the Credit Card Guy was explaining about their back up baterries, generators and enough desiel fuel for 30 days. If the power went out for 30 days, would the stores still be able to except credit cards? The logic fails me.

-- Chat Room (Slut@aol.com), November 29, 1999.

Bad Company, don't bet your life that everything will be OK. It's not worth it. I'll bet you have some preps and just won't admit it.

-- Boy Scout (boyscout@beprepared.com), November 30, 1999.

Oh, and another thing Bad Company...if you really believe that those industry leaders are telling the truth about Y2K, then you are hopelessly naive or just plain stupid. When it comes to government or big business, trust is for suckers!

-- Boy Scout (boyscout@beprepared.com), November 30, 1999.

Writing Oprah Winfrey just might help.

To write her an e-mail, you can go to http://www.oprah.com/ show/scoop.html

You can also vote in the Y2K poll.

In addition you can contribute to her message board on the topic of the Y2K program aired November 29.

There should be more programs on Y2K. I am sure that with enough people writing, there will be. Let's hope that future programs will be more helpful to the public.

99.99% == withdraw your money from the bank on the 21st of December. 99.5% == pre-buy two weeks of food. I like sums. :)

Bad Company,

There is a great confusion in what we're hearing from our government. One side (Bennett, Horn, and the Senate's Y2K Committee) are telling us that it's going to be a rough ride while there are othes (such as on Oprah's show) who say that Y2K won't be even a bump. Personally, I'd rather see the proof in writing - the Senate's Executive Summary was a powerhouse. Have you seen any such proof from the individuals that you follow? Have they done an exhaustive study? What about Gartner's reports? Did you see the link that an attendee posted - it was the meeting's summary - it didn't sound like "nothing" was going to happen either...

I think it is prudent to prepare for what MIGHT happen.

"Conspiracy", not for me - critical thinking and some obvious conclusions. Think for yourself, don't let someone else do it for you.

Bad Company,

Remember, people are not the only ones "building bunkers". Seems to me quite a few municipalities are building them too (Columbus OH, Washington D.C., etc.). "Watch what they do, not what they say."

-- mdecker (decker@flowmgt.com), November 30, 1999.

Oprah and her show are about ratings and money, nothing more, nothing less. Don't fall into the trap of email, writing letters, or calling the show to voice your disapproval. If you do, that means you watched the show. Mike

The idea of Orca Winfrey doing a y2k-show was discussed at TB2K over a year ago. I was wrong for thinking it would never happen, others were wrong for thinking it would be a good idea.

Oh well, you live and learn.

Just more spin to lull the herd... no big deal... be prepared... for anything... NOBODY KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN... opinions are like A$$holes, everyone has one and they usually stink... in 31 days, EVERYONE will know... predictions have a bad habit of being WRONG.

"640k ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates, 1981

"We don't like their sound, and guitar music is on its way out" - Decca Recording Co., on the Beatles, 1962

"There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home" - Ken Olson, founder of Digital Equipment Corp., 1977

"Stocks have reached what looks like a permanently high plateau" - Irving Fisher, Yale Economics Professor, 1929

"Everything that can be invented has been invented" - Charles Duell. US Patent Office Commissioner, 1899

Well I'm just shocked to realize that you few pitiful people here know so much more than the millions of people who have worked on Y2k, lo these many years.

Where are all the utilities, banking, and energy people who should be selling their homes & bugging out to the hills, since they know everything's going to be so bad?

WELL? WHERE ARE THEY?

A. They're staying right where they are, since they KNOW that scenarios such as were presented on Oprah's show are basically right-on.

It's the Doomer folks on this board who are in the 'delusional state'.
