I wanna be a Polly...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Wouldn't it be sooo much easier if we could go back and take away our knowlege of all of this? I'm tired of mentally going through preps, buying more stuff than I'll ever need in this life time (can you believe that I have 100 lbs. of cornstarch stored {2-6 gal. buckets}). What am I doing???? No one needs that much corn starch in their life time!!! I could open a bulk food store if nothing happens. I don't want to have 16 people live with me for anymore than 10 seconds, I don't want to eat beans and rice for any length of time. I don't want to kill and gut a chicken for dinner. I want things the same as they were 2 1/2 years ago before I heard about y2k. I want to be a polly!!!!

I AM DYING LAUGHING!! what the heck are you going to do with 100 lbs of corn starch? make gravy? or is it used for burying corpses or something?

i have way too much pudding. too many cake mixes. but i figured if i had a solar oven i was going to make cupcakes for the neighborhood.

OK, wanna be a Polly, get a lot of crackers! 8-)

Seriously, it's that pesky objective reality getting in the way. I'm witcha pal, I want my NFL, IBC root beer, Doritos with Pace, and all them other fancy trimmins'.

BUT, if it ain't gonna be normal, I want to be as comfy as possible. Just think of the capital value of a Snickers bar in 12 months! I'm stockin' sugar beet seeds and food coloring to make fancy rock candy for trading material after the dust settles. I'M GONNA BE RICH! A MAN WITH 10 CHICKINS'!

100 lbs. of corn starch? I don't know why I bought it. I needed to put "some" cornstarch in storage (for stew instead of soup day after day). And at .24 per pound it seemed like a good deal.

I know, I know....I get made fun of all the time. My family said I'll need to sell my house next year and leave all my stored items behind for the new owners, they are not going to want to move it all if something happens to me. How cheerful they all are.

Contact King of Spain for what to do with the corn starch. Add water and it makes the most lovely goo... good mud substitute.. much less messy. Or with a little less water, kids have a great time exploring the fact that if you squeeze it it gets hard, if you stop squeezing it goes limp (oops... I mean gets runny). Wrong show. Thinking of KoS in cornstarch got me all flustered.

--Yowza, know how ya feel. Just getting into this internet thing nicely, enjoying it, looking forward to another career. Good thing about it (y2k) was it made me speed up my plans to move rural again (moving urban was a big mistake on my part). Only real difference is amount of my stored "things' have expanded over what was "normal" for me, used to be a few months worth all the time, obviously more now. Kinda more worried about international war now than at any time before, since cuban missile crisis anyway. Y2k is down the list for me, but that DATE can't and couldn't be ignored, so prepped accordingly. If you're (generally speaking) a survivalist rather than strictly a y2k preparer, things are just a *little* better psychologically speaking, I feel. h-m-m-m-m lemme see where have I gone bonkers overboard????h-m-m- m-m-m-m-m-m gotta be canned corn, without a doubt, love the stuff, bet half my canned veggies are corn, with the rest of the cans a good mixture of everything else. I'm also a beef stew fiend, can quote the price of every brand every store around here....h-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m, nope everything else is "normal" amounts for long term prepping, in fact, still short some items, but snagging that real soon.

Hey, got any good butterknife stories lately????

Hey, Zog;

Canned corn! I am the canned corn and air rifle pellet king of my county. If anybody tries to take my mountain of canned corn, I'll shoot them with my air rifle. I always loved canned corn.

You're right to be worried about another war. It's coming.

Canned corn? Creamed? Have you tried the Corn fritters from y2kkitchen.com? Pretty yummy.

Your killing me, now I don't feel so bad about that 150 lbs. of popcorn:-)
