Farmers--tractor conversion

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

A great big thank you to the person who mentioned FEMA publication on "construction of a simplified wood gas engine for tractor conversions" This publication is free--your tax dollars at work. If we have any hope of continuing after the supplies are gone, we will desperately need some way to continue agriculture and power tractors. This publication tells us how to do it with wood and simple things like a steel drum and garbage can. Detailed instructions and parts lists. This was used in WWII very successfully. This has made two-engineers-in-the-boondocks-of- upstate-PA's day. Pam

How about a link? Thanks, Daryll

Ah Yes! A free publication. Please supply publication number and title and address. Out here on the farm, we are veeeerrryyy interested in tractor conversion. Big Red (1947) is a hand crank start, simple to run and maintain, and a perfect candidate fr conversion. Needless to say when the EMP hits, big red will be whizzing by you all!

Anyway, particulars would be very helpful.

If you don't trust civil servants to get you the info in time, you could also pay $10 for the "book"
here's a place that sells it (alledgedly)

Biomass Conversion Literature

there are several other interesting books there such as :

"The Lost Art of Driving without Gasoline"

This page describes the process of "Wood Gas" abit:

Wood Powered Cars

fascinating, absolutely fascinating. thanks for getting us going on this thread, Pam.

Won't be long before we see the re-emergence of the "Stanley Steamer" car, will it?
