Reasons Behind Doomer Negativity! Listen up Hoffm......

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

" First, don't mistake this for a neutral source of information. It is not. The information presented here is almost uniformly negative".

Mr. Hoffmeister wrote the above statement in a thread below. His opinion is ubiquitous among what are called pollys.

(ot--what does a 200lb. mouse say) answer,(here kitty,kitty)

The so called negative information that this forum consists of is for the specific purpose of getting people off of their big fat lazy lethargic behinds and to move them to a point of Preparing, even if just for a few days.

Without negativity that cannot be accomplished, due specifically to the dichotomy of our current social state and what it might possibly be in a few weeks. (PLEASE NOTE: POSSIBLY)

To put newbies or lurkers into viewing a debate of "maybe will, maybe won't" will only leave them in a state of paralyzation.

Listen very carefull::::: Only belief (accepting something as true or possible) leads to action.

A negative belief is a must for preparing.

Mr. Hoffmeister, I doubt seriously that anyone would be comforted knowing that there debating skills kept someone from preparing.

The FACT that there are two sides to every story isn't being refuted here.

LEAD-FOLLOW OR GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!!!

I am not interested in hearing so-called "good news," i.e., that something will be as usual, because I ALREADY KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT AND WHAT TO DO IN NORMAL TIMES.

I need to read what MIGHT go wrong and how, so I know how to plan contingencies, just like many businesses and institutions are doing (e.g., the Navy War College). The odds are I will never need contingency plans, but I NEED TO KNOW WHAT NIGHT GO WRONG JUST IN CASE.

Do you paternalistic, meddling, self-righteous, interfering pollies understand this simple concept? I don't NEED details of fine weather when the sun is shining, I need to know if there's a chance of rain, so I can put my umbrella in the car. Understand?

Anyone else feel free to get this point across. Good luck.

??? This thread is as close as I've ever seen to an explicit admission that the purpose of this forum is pure propaganda, but (as always with propaganda), for the reader's "own good", of course.

We don't want our readers to make INFORMED decisions, we want them to make the RIGHT decision. Ours! You MUST believe as we do! Otherwise, you might not do what WE know is best for you.

(Oh, and by the way, when government pulls this same stunt, they're evil! Just so you know).

Flint -- If you're too dumb to recognize a troll post, posing as a doomer, then you are really lost in space. Or, did you make the first post yourself? Just kidding on that one. Read it again and THINK for a change.

Big Dog:

On reflection, I believe you're right. I fell for a parody. OK, I'll try to be more alert.

I agree with Flint.

If, while having access to both sides of the argument, you are paralized with indecision and cannot make up your mind, or, if you should make the incorrect descision, I would suggest that you blame Mr. Darwin for your demise.

Thx, Flint. It's bad enough fighting about the real stuff without this nonsense -- and it is trollish nonsense, whether or not the original poster "protests" or, frankly, intended it.

Parody is right.

PS, Troll or not, I still agree, silly me.

I have steadfastly ignored all pollyanna poppycock and have prepared sufficiently for my family and friends. Common sense is Y2K compliant.

I'm positive. I'm positive that in about 35 days, we'll see rollover, with uncertain results. I'm positive that another hurricane will hit Kaua'i...eventually. I'm positive that we'll have economic downturns, storms, and geological events that will create the potential for hardship.

But being positive is only being realistic...
