help for the HTML challenged

I've noticed that you can post plain text or HTML here, but any mix of the two is likely to produce badly formatted posts. Is there a reason why the URLs submitted in plain-text format can't be automatically converted to hyperlinks? I have seen message boards with a separate box to post a link and that seems to work fine.

And why not unlink all of the fake email addresses by pinging them after a post. Better yet, if they don't exist...delete the posts!

Two types of people post with fake an adress. Trolls and those who can give great info. but do not want to be tranced by their neighbors or the government. Thanks but, I'll sift through the trolls to find the good ones.

Phil (Read my Book) Greenspun's software does NOT require real addresses, and allows the mix of plaintext and HTML but doesn't parse the text looking for HTML. HTML is up to the poster.
