fyi on what one hospital is telling it's employees...

at Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, my sister who is a supervisor in the lab at one of our local hospitals here, told me that they have been given a y2k handbook and will be tested on it next week. One thing she found interesting (by the way, she is a poly), is that in the handbook it is explained to them that prior to Dec. 31, all equipment will be labeled with either a green, yellow, or red sticker. Green means that they expect no problems with the equipment, yellow means they think there will be no problems but are not totally sure, and red means they expect problems with the equipment. She said no stickers have been put on any equipment yet. I will post an update when I find out more.

Our Information Systems people at work were doing that 9 months ago. They and Maintenance (part of the in-house Y2K Task Force) did a complete survey of the plant. We have a lot of PC's in the manufacturing areas. Computers and other equipment that would go down were replaced. Some 'puters with the yellow stickers, however, are still around. Our plantwide phone system is due to be replaced on December 10. The plant HVAC (ventilation sytem) still needs to be replaced, though. The old one will be a definite no-show come 1/1. Kind of hard to make parts if you are wearing your parka, assuming of course that the electricity is still flowing! But it has taken the plant NINE MONTHS to get this done. Hope somebody at the hospital was thinking further ahead than your sister seems to indicate...
