Sightings - department store blues

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

My local Roses (a NC-regional department store - kinda a 1/3 size KMart) had the following messages on nicely printed placards on every other shelf in the store (all departments - clothes, toys, food, paint, etc.).

It's from my scribbled notes (I didn't want to be caught stealing it; can you imagine trying to explain *that* one to the in-store dicks? "Uh, I wanted it to post on a Y2K Web site, ossifer...").

"We Apologize for the Out-of-Stock items

The implementation of our new computer system to correct the Y2K problem has slowed our replenishment to the stores.

We will be back in-stock shortly."

I noticed an empty shipping box for a Compaq computer at work, and the carton had a sticker on it that said, "Y2K". The sticker just said "Y2K"--not "Y2K compliant" or "Y2K ready"--just "Y2K". Is this bizarre or what?

And no polly/trolls; I didn't memorize the bar code number off the box, or have it dusted for finger prints and sent to the lab for testing.

There! Just realized my Become A Millionaire niche. Gonna make "Damn Y2K!" placards and market them to businesses everywhere starting tomorrow.
