An admission of guilt

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Dear Friends,

It's finally time for me to say good bye. Yes, I have been one of those trolls so many of you talk about on this forum.

I admit that I have been paid by a government agency to piss off many of you doomsayer types and i think I have been successful. They have decided to lay me off now that they believe there will truly be no problems.

Thank you for the entertainment boys. It's been fun. Time to book a vacation down south.

Well now, isn't that special?

Okay, I've got it!! "DON'T FEED THE TROLLS, EVEN CUTE, FUZZY LITTLE ONES." I don't think this man is for real.

Has anyone noticed that the price of gold went up quite a bit today? Any know why? (Sorry KOS, had to ask)

Dear John (heehee, always wanted to type that!),

There is no doubt that you are a troll. However, it is only in your fevered and delusional imaginings that anyone would ever pay you for more than flipping burgers. We both agree you are a troll, but we disagree on this: You say you're leaving and I say you're not. Prove that I'm wrong by the presence of *significantly* less disruption on the forum after you post this "farewell" (heehee). After all, if you're so good at disrupting forums that someone would pay you to do it, you must have been among the most disruptive here...right? If there is not substantially less disruption, then you, John (heehee) are a liar.

BWAHAHAHAHA (excuse me, but I always wanted to type that, too).

No problem, "nothing" -- I was just pre-objecting to multiple threads with titles like "GOLD UP $0.03, NOW $298.04!!!". That gets real annoying real quick.

Personally, I think that what with the Bank of England about to have one of their golden garage sales, there is just a lot of "shifting" out there, people jingling gold around trying to posture themselves. But hey, what do I know?

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. The person who started this thread, claiming to be one of the annoying trolls of late, strikes me as being a piss-ant.

You can bet that he's not for real. I guarantee you that anyone that shills for the government is bound by one type of contractual secrecy or another. The government could not afford for the media to prove another incident on an agency. Spin, spin, spin.

Another SNL joke. Such a dry sense of humor you have.

KOS, thanks for the note. I do think the price of gold - combined with other indicators - is a way to watch for increasing instability in the world. Lots of folks around the world still consider gold as the best safe haven for money. But I would agree with you that most of the time it is going through normal market ups and downs. Maybe sometime, however, it will start going up, and the only logical reason is the start of a financial panic. Take care and enjoy your mudwrestling...

Anon650....who's joking?

In my business you have to be paranoid to survive. After reading many government reports that sounded great (and just barely avoided being disemboweled financially by the report's implementation), I do tend to view the world in general with a very healthy dose of scepticism.

SNL...so that's where it came from.

Leave it to KOS to be on the leading edge. A new definition for the Y2K dictionary;

Piss-ant n. 1) A troll trolling for trolls
