The end is upon us

I had a dream last night that a technical glitch would have a major impact on our world on January 1st, 2000. In one hours time, I will proceed to the bank, withdraw all my money and go to the grocery stores and buy as much as I can. Good luck everyone. May god be with you.

It was only a dream, now go back to sleep.

Does this sound like the other trolling threads being started today? Guess they are changing their names and their tactics. Newcomers, do not let the sappy trolls disarm you by their nonsense posts.

I still have a hard time dealing with the idea that this will have a major impact. I'm ready, I'm well prepped,..but I still won't believe it till I see it. There's no way I can be mentally prepared for this. I think my reaction will be giddy laughter and downright panic anyhow..honest to God,..if these things really do come to pass I'll be a nutcase. Have you had any postive dreams lately, Ron?

I am new to the Forum so please someone explain to me what the word "troll" stands for in the Y2K context? I am puzzled

-- Francis Mont (francis@montland.com), November 23, 1999.

Trolls serve to disrupt logical thought through deliberate interjection of misinformation. They can be outrageous or subtle. (Remember the ones who claimed that prepping ruined their lives?) In any event, they are (1) abberrant (sp?) characters who are simply looking to cause trouble, or (2) paid shills designed to keep the forum looking like a bit of an asylum. While this latter may sound a bit outlandish to a newcomer, most of the regulars here (some very reasonable individuals) share my beliefs that the trolls are indeed part of an organized effort to disseminate disinformation.

Most importantly, they are a pain in the neck.

Francis:

A troll is a *mischief maker* who is not writing because they have an honest opinion and are willing to debate it here with others of varying thoughts. They want to STOP this forum... sorry you'll have to slog through so many troll postings to find the meat, but it is here for you to digest as you see fit. There are many here with varied opinions who still manage to get along.

Hi, Francis,

Welcome aboard! We have here, in our forum family, a wonderful bunch of brawlers who have been baiting and beating each other for months over whatever bit of y2k minutiae the day brings. A troll is someone who intentionally lures others into a countering an argument and the spittin' contest begins. This particular thread could look like a troll because it seems superficial at best, and may hide a slam at those who are concerned enough about y2k to prepare for its potentially devastating effects. It seems to trivialize advance preparation. Subtle, I know. But some of our readers might see those things.

In general, trolls waste a lot of bandwidth, and now that we're so near the deadline, a lot of us wish they would take it outside, so the rest of us could voice our observations, reports, and opinions about the effects y2k is likely to bring. It's just part of the heat the topic generates in us all, regardless of our stance. Keep coming back. You'll encounter some wonderful minds and good hearts here. In time you'll learn to recognize, and shun, the trolls.

Ron Starbird--are you related to Bart Starbird?

I agree with Dave. Occam's Razor indicates to me that some of the trolls that regularly post on this forum are probably paid shills.

lou,

Hmmm...maybe the same people who came up with the brilliant idea to poison one of Castro's cigars some years back?
