Ramona,

All though I am not an 'expert' or should I say 'perfesional' installer...... I do know alot about wood stoves by experence.

First of all, I hate to tell you this, but.... installing a wood stove is not something you should try alone. Get someone that knows what they are doing.

Remember.... preping for Y2k, is to try to REDUCE the risk of harm to your self and family. I am not a polly, nor a troll....just someone that is conserned.

First of all.... you need a chimney. If you dont have one....you are in trouble. The top of the chimney (vent) needs to be about 5 feet above the peek of your house or the tallest/near structure. This is to allow for a good 'draft'. If you dont have a good draft, you wont get a good fire going and you will also get ALOT of smoke coming back into your house. NOT GOOD.

I hope I have scared you enough. Please get some help with this one. I am all for doing your own work on say phone lines, VCRs, your auto...etc. But if you cross the wrong wire in your phone line.... it wont kill you in your sleep somenight. Get the point?

Do you have an existing chimney?

Ramona, talk to either a chimney sweep and/or a store that sells wood heaters and/or your local building official (gag). They should be able to help.
