Such an afflatus.

Words of wisdom from the Permanent Secretary of Singapore's Ministry of Communications and Information, to be sure. Let's see now:

In Japanese: "toosuto";

In Spanish: "tostada";

In Portuguese: "brinde";

In French: "pain grille";

In Italian: "pane tostato";

And in German, English, and most parts of the U.S. south: "toast"...

What language do the people of Singapore speak?

And the answer is...

'Singlish'

Which would render your favorite bar-b-qued wheat product as

'toast-laah'

Spidey,

And what exactly does afflatus mean?

Enquiring minds want to know...

does it mean "without gas"?

Ha, know-nothing foreigners! The citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland have been prepared by our majestic government for this horrific eventuality. All we need do is change the date on our video recorders to 1972 (same days, same dates, leap year) and we will be able to record the last flickering pictures of screaming mobs tearing down Nelson's Column. ;)

Well, actually. :(

afflatus, n. (uh-FLAY-tus) 1. The personification of a gaseous wind, without substance; 2. A walking, talking fart, or the evidence thereof. (deriv: flatus, flatulence)

(IOW, beats me. I'm just making this stuff up as I go along. Could you tell?)
