PRIVATE UTILITIES READY FOR Y2K Oregon PUC Gives Its Blessing To Plans Oregon's privately owned utilities report their critical systems are ready for the turning of the millennium. The Oregon Public Utility Commission said today the private utilities, from which most Oregonians get their power and phone service, report their essential systems are Y2K compliant. P-U-C Chairman Ron Eachus said ``all indications are there should not be a problem.'' Eachus said if people expect a Hollywood-style disaster, the event could be ``Way 2 Boring. Utilities have made quarterly reports to the commission this year on their Y2K readiness. They now are finishing contingency plans for use in the event power is disrupted. The P-U-C has required them to file those plans by December first.
