OT: Guns-Boy am I suprised!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Just saw the most amazing thing! CBS News in NY just ran story detailing how DIFFICULT it is for the common man to get a gun permit in NYC. First they listed a bunch of famous people (including Babe Ruth) who have/had permits and explained how easy it is for the rich and famous to get permits.

Then they told the tale of a man who owned a pharmacy and how, after months of running up against 'a blue wall', he hired an attorney and $2,000 later got himself a permit. They were very critical of the NYPD for keeping 'honest citizens with clean records' from owning guns!! They even closed the segment with the anchorwoman saying 'and true to form, the NYPD for the first time ever denied more than half of all requests for permit RENEWALS!!' (emphasis mine). Oh, and if anyone thinks it matters, the store owner was black.

Could the tide be turning?? Keeping my fingers crossed...

Probably has more to do with the media spin against Guilliani than pro gun. I just can't see any of the liberal mob in the media being pro gun. More along the line of setting the mayor up for sniping when he actually gets to challenge Her Highness.

Definition: Conservative----a liberal who has just been mugged.

In spite of the government pablum they have been spewing the NEW YORK BASED MAJOR MEDIA are GI. Now they are running out of time, can't leave town, and the evil police won't validate their concealed carry permits. Murder, gang rape, unspeakable atrocities looming on the horizon, their gold stashes in danger, but the figutreheads of state cannot desert the ship. May their fates match their karma.

zoobie,

I'm not in NYC. I'm in NJ about 20 miles from the George Washington Bridge. Not worried about the hordes of people though. If it gets bad the GWB is the FIRST thing the Port Autority/NG will shut down...

THE RICH HAVE SPECIAL PRIVLEGES??? At least one newspaper publisher was dead set against guns, but had a concealed carry permit in NYC. Not to mention Carl Rowan, the anti-gun columnist, who used a gun to repel a home invader one night. But the average citizen is judge to be too incompetent to pack a weapon. Then again, the elite have succeeded in keeping people so stupid that they might have a point.

Priveledged people are often deeply and fundamentally opposed to the idea of unpriveledge people carrying weapons.

For examples, see the entirety of human history. :)
