You mean Cesarian?

I have begun to question the adversarial implications of 'Pollies and Doomers.' Whether or not Y2K is a BITR or TEOTWAWKI, or variations of any combination of extremes or non-extremes, I question the wisdom of the widening the gulf between individuals) by encouraging the use of the labels. IMHO, it is now time to dispense with the titles, Polly and Doomer, and all the associated niggling and insults. It has been interesting to watch, on occasion, the clamor and insults, but time may be very short. If one truly believes the rollover will produce nothing more than a few annoyances, why do the preparations of those who differ in their opinions, cause such distress? Ultimately, each of us must be responsible for the consequences of our own actions. If someone posts their feelings of distress over the pressure and emotional angst of Y2K, whether seeking support or concrete answers, ultimately the decision to act or not act is entirely in their hands.

If Y2K is severe and fatal and devastating, isn't it time to begin contemplating how we can become united as humans in order to be able to sustain life and repair and rebuild? Now, while we can adjust our attitudes while enjoying the luxury of electricity and food? If Y2K is nothing more than inconvenience and a series of nettling, benign events, isn't now the time to examine why we have created a global machine so fragil with interdependence, and so without regard to the consequences of the planet we inhabit?

Whatever position one holds, whatever the eventual outcome of Y2K, I think there is a valuable lesson to be learned about each of our own reactions to opposing opinions. Lively discussion, rational, heated arguments can be satisfying and illuminating. Petty insults and personal attacks are not only counter-productive, but they foster a negativity that contributes nothing and dimishes us as a whole. I think our reactions and our attitudes toward each other, right now and from this moment on, can either sow seeds of hostility and hatred, or maybe, just maybe, we can begin to view each other in a more compassionate light. Who knows, extending compassion and tolerance on the level of this forum, might take off. It might have a "cascading" effect of unification, an appreciation of differences. Just a thought.

There is only one sane, rational answer to our future, regardless of whether y2k turns out to be a one or a ten. That answer is community. It takes cooperation and participation to create a good, strong community and humankind has been building them from the beginning of human history. When the dust settles from y2k it will be what humans will continue to do. If 9 out of 10 people perish in the process it will still be what we will do. So why not start now? Us "doomers" can start planning ways to ease the way for a new start or a better way should the fabric hold together. And us "pollys" can start improving our society so that we never again spend over a trillion dollars because of a bad ten dollar decision 30 years ago to use 2 digits instead of 4. A thousand billion dollars could have done a lot of good deeds and projects. Regardless, community is the only answer and community includes everyone.

Stunningly intelligent? Yes, but it's also partially due to environmental factors.......

Yeah, we smart and good lookin'. Smart, too. Oh, I said that.

As a member in good standing in the "doomer" camp I have a few observations:

I feel I have been conditioned by the events that have occured during my lifetime. It starts with my having been born in Oklahoma during the dust bowl days in the middle of the Big Depression. Then came WWII,The Iron Curtain & The Cold War, Korea, Cuban Missle Crisis, and Vietnam.

Now, Y2k may not end up belonging in that line up, but you can damn well bet that I'm not gonna just sit on my butt and ridicule the folks trying to prepare.
