CBN (700 Club) had a 15 minute segment on Y2K and Terrorism today. A little unsettling, to say the least. Any one else see it?

I saw the news spot...

Basically the Gov. is going to take a "It's a cyber attack...An not the Y2K Bug", which has taken out our Fed.wire (internet connections, The Stock Markets, Power distribution lines etc.)

They must really believe that they can foist any thing on John Q. Public, and he'll collectively swallow it. Bt then again, their spin has worked so far.

The other segment delt with WMD war fare terrorist style. And that it could begin in the roll over troubles (which it most certainly could).

And may or may not pertain to terrorism,...recently off the wire services: EgyptAir translations from cockpit voice recorder may indicate that when the pilot left the cockpit, second seat man was heard praying about death. Pilot returns says something like: What are you doing...? Coincides with rapid decent. Pilot says: Help me pull it up.....shortly thereafter engines are shut off.

I'm going to ask my airline pilot info about psychological aspects of pilots' regular physicals...

Preppin' to the teeth!

Gary North said, around June 1998, that Cyberterrorism would be blamed instead of y2k. And he's right. I saw a long show on Discovery all about cyberterrorism about a month ago. And another show on CSPAN about the same. They make a convincing argument. And I just know all the DGI's in my family would *much* rather beleive that there is an "enemy" that can be killed, rather than believe that Tech screwed up. I just don't get it....

You mean Y2K is all the fault of those crazy Arabs?

I hate to break it to you shakey, but all recent studies and historical evidence show that one Mr John Q Public is, in fact, an absolute idiot. He will believe what ever he is told because he is too stupid to even realize that he has a chioce. That's why there are so many talkshows now. Mr Public was having trouble thinking about the news long enough to form an opinion, so now he has someone else do it for him. ahhh progress.

Snippets from program:

Sen. Robert Bennett: (speaking about the Fed wire) What if there is a very sophisticated, very determined, fully financed opponent that decided they were going to do whatever was necessary to shut down the Fed wire? It would be more significant in terms of it's economic damage than a bomb set off on the floor of the NY Stock Exchange.

NSC's Dick Clark: (likening the cyber terror threat to an electronic Pearl Harbor) We could wake up one morning and find a city, or the country, or a section of the country without power because of a surprise electronic warfare attack.

Arnaud De Borchgrave: (Senior Advisor at CSIS, President and CEO of UPI) We have to start thinking of weapons of mass disruption as opposed to weapons of mass destruction, because weapons of mass disruption can literally bring a country like the United States to it's knees... Today a team of 10 computer wizards strategically placed around the world in a well coordinated attack... could literally bring the U.S. to it's knees.

Neil Livingstone: (Crisis Management Expert, CEO of Global Options, author of 9 books on terrorism and security) We've emasculated the CIA and some of our other intelligence agencies. We don't take a pro- active view when we DO find terrorism... We've got to regard this as a war, and we have to treat it accordingly.

Yeah, but all those cyber-terrorists are waiting patiently for 1/1/2000 before they ALL STRIKE AT ONCE.

Yup! I sure do believe that. Uh huh! I suuuuuure do!

-- Dennis (djolson@cherco.net), November 16, 1999.

. . . and so are those solar flares and meteor storms! . . . and how about those biological warfare terrorist!

They're all waiting patiently for 1/1/2000.

Yep! You can bet the spin on that.

And because the 3 bags of rice I bought and put in buckets put our farming industry over the edge and caused them to withdraw their cash before the end of the year, I am the scapegoat.
