length of a video-cdgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread |
Hi,I was wondering if it is possible to make a video-cd with a slightly lower bitrate that 1speed cd-rom(172Kb), for example 5Kb lower that the normal rate. In this way slightly ore wil fit on a video-cd. Also has anyone burnned video-cd's that are larger that 78 minutes(using a 80 minut cd-r)? Any response is welcome..
Thanks

Stephane, I'd have to say yes and no. Yes, you could encode at a lowerbitrate, and proably burn it as a slightly illegal VCD through adaptec's VCD creator, but your results will be interesting to see. It'll probably play back on a PC based player, but don't expect good results from a DVD or VCD player. After all, VCD is a specification, and any variance from the specs make it no long a true VCD, which is based on time, not information rate(hence 700+ meg on a 650 meg CD as long as it meets VCD specs and is under 71 minutes). So can you change bitrate, sure. Is it still a legit VCD, no.

hi Guys I would have said the same thing but for this:In trying to make a higher data rate vcd as has been discussed on this forum. I was using the Panasonic encoder and trying to make a VCD at 2200kbits per second and the encoder said no way because the data rate needs to be (from memory) between 600 and 1150kbits/sec.
If that error message is correct then it would appear possible to make a videocd at half the data rate or anywhere in between but not one at the higher rate unless one screws the normal Mpeg-1 file into a vcd format manually. I did not try the slower data rate option so I cannot give an answer and I do not have a copy of the white book spec to check it out. I cannot imagine the image quality at half the data rate if it were possible.

Forgot to add, you will most likely have to burn non standard vcd files with Nero as a minimum - Bravo Nero!
