Review: Y2K: Year To Kill

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

It's cheap film and acting. It reminded me of the banned movie "Harry's War."

It doesn't show the nation going down but the nation in the aftermath through the eye's of a small time relief aid worker gone evil out of desperation to escape "from it all."

The main event or focus is over a truck of drugs on route to the relief center.

The second main characters are a gang operating within the black market. If they can't find what they want they raid a home that has it killing every occupant including infants in cribs. They also seek out programmers for execution as a side political kick.

There isn't any happy ending what so ever. In fact, quite the opposite.

What Spectrum Films showed as the aftermath is oddly normal looking. The hitch is the majority are so poor and the products so hyperinflated only the rich can enter the regular grocery stores. Everything AOK but it'll cost you 20 bucks for one little can of soup.

There is massive unemployment but few people on the streets. They are so traumatized by it all, what they can get a hold of, they stay with in their homes in high anxiety of more power outages or worsening conditions.

Cash is king and banks are toasted. The stock market has experienced a couple of earth shattering crashes.

The government is pretty much toasted. L.A. in the peak is a place no one is willing to describe. Hints just float about.

The relief worker describes it as a great depression and her own refrigerator only contains a loaf of bread and a rare six pack of Corona beer. She plays as an entertainer in a bar at night to have a beer.

I give it five stars because I know a potentially banned movie when I see one.

Is this a TV movie? I never heard of it. (We don't have an antenna for our TV, just keep it in storage for when we have a video to watch.) But I'd go to my brother's place to watch this movie if I had to.

No this is the one you can't see on t.v., on cable, or in the movie theaters. It sells for a bit under 100 bucks and the only place one can purchase it at is Amazon.com

If you search Amazon.com's zshops for the movie you can find it for $19.95 + 4.95 shipping from some place called spectrum films. Better hurry - they only have 49 copies left.

Here is the link.
