The forum software appears to be a tad slow in posting.

Not sure why, and have alerted Phil Greenspun. This morning I posted to a couple threads and 25 minutes later my responses are still not showing. However in the Admin side of the forum, they are.

Go figure.

Also the E-mail alert system seems to be out too. Phils message...

Something is horribly wrong with the email handler on this computer so we're giving up on sending any email notifications. Your posting will be enshrined in the database, of course.

Expected a 250 status line; got:
451 qq write error or disk full (#4.3.0)

Anyone else having a similar experience this morning?

Not only that, but replies to some posts are showing up on some people's computers but not on others...... go figure!

I was chatting with someone on ICQ while reading posts, and they told me about KOS's response to Ken Decker's post on charity.... 10 minutes later, it still hasn't come up on mine when I refresh, or even when I leave Internet completely and come back on!

Diane, just a curiosity: Is the auto e-mail alert something that could be dragging down the performance of the software? If so, could that function be considered for elimination?? As we approach Jan 1, it seems to me that this site is going to consume itself with an increased load, and if something intensive like that could be disabled to improve overall performance, it might be worth it.

Yea, it still ain't right. It seemed better last week, but that was in very early AM, when traffic was lite.

I've played with some of the settings in both Explorer and Netscape, and nothing seems to help.

Oh well, at least it shows up, sooner or later... <:)=

I posted to three threads this morning, two on Ken Deckers "charity," one on a a mountain pass in Washington being closed Dec. 1. Two showed then disappeared, then one reappeared, the one on the Mt. pass appeared and then totally disappeared. Maybe it's time to lay low....

All this hassle followed an "upgrade" to the Forum software by a Sysop who knows his trade as well as or better than most. Somehow, the Law of Unintended Consequences comes to mind. Sometimes they bite.

Yep. Every time you press that Submit button, the computer will do your will ... assuming that your will is to add another posting to the thread even if it is almost exactly the same as your preceding posting.
