Weather Radio as a prep item.......................

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

You may want to add one of these to your preps. Many states will be useing the weather service freq. to broadcast y2k problems over the new years weekend. These are only about $20.

Flame,

Thanks for the info. Do you have a link for which states will be using that frequency to broadcast?

Thanks.

Scanner radios will receive the broadcasts as well as emergency, police, and fire depts. Very handy in knowing where not to go.

Good point. I love an all-weather radio! However, in the case of bad things, I'm sure an ordinary radio will carry all the news ad nauseum if they can broadcast.

Sorry, no link, but I think it is most of them.

I thought the National Weather Service owned theese frequencies. Could you provide a link or other source that indicates that non- weather info will be broadcast on these frequencies?

Mike;

The one I remember is a press release from the Georgia emergency managment agency. (GEMA) Try their web site. I have read this several other places also, just can't remember.
