Is there a Sales Tax if you Lease Car

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

I was thinking leasing a new auto next year when the State Tax man will take it easy. My question what other taxes do I have to pay besides the $30 license fee if I LEASE THE CAR? LEASE does not mean buy so I am thinking that it is not subject to sales Tax.

You are buying the USE of a leased car every day. Your pro-rated sales taxes are figured into your payment.

There is no way to escape MVET or Sales Taxes (legally) when buying a car in War-shington.

Washington state sales tax is an excise. See Laws of Washington 1933. An excise is a tax for a privilege. I suggest you understand what that is telling you.
