Where's Ashton and Leska and Where do We Get Pizza?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

TWO DAYS AGO I was honored with an e-mail by that inimitable ever-upbeat couple, Ashton and Leska in Cascadia: inter alia, I learned that they are not a pair of buxom young female nurse-roomies, versed in all forms of paramedic treatment including mouth-to-mouth (as I had imagined) but a maturish and repsectable married couple... male/female, as they said, who prefer tea to coffee. Amidst it all the idea came up for a few of us Cascadian GI's and semi-GI's to coallesce around a steamy pizza somehwere in NW Portland or on the West Side -- Beaverton, etc. -- around NOVEMBER 21, 1999 -- next Sunday -- to snort root beer while watching the NBC Y2K made-for-TV flick. SO we may need a restaurant with a big-screen telly. I therefore suggested Godfather's becuase they have the TV and no Blazer games are scheduled for next Sunday -- although th pizza there is miserable. Ashton and Leska came up with Izzy's, where the eats are delectable, but we would have to import our own television. Of course the best pizza worldwide is at Mr. C's in Forest Grove, but most of the pinball machines there are on the fritz.

Recent rains seem to guarantee a mudwallow for the King of Spain to conduct some open-air wrestling. At any rate, I am presuming A&L may be still calling around to rent or reserve a suitable room? A&L? And Meanwhile I am putting out the alert this afternoon for all regional TB2000 GI's: that plans for such a gala Cascadian festival to usher out 2000 years of history are now in the works, and if any of you other Oregonians or Washingtonians might want to take part, leave your calendar open for next Sunday evening and watch for Ashton & Leska's upcoming post.

It is my own experience that only Round Table serves edible pizza and it does have a big screen for those interested. Have you such in your community?

If this event blossoms into fruition...I would be interested.

Email addy is real.

Whoa! OK, it's outted ;^) We're trying to break our new mountain bikes in, so went riding today. Went to Mollala River State Park. Supposed to be warm & sunny, was cool & so foggy could barely see ahead. Asphalt, concrete, grass, moss, gravel, rutted, MUD trails. KoS, you'd better come! There are ponds everywhere and lotsa ducks, no Canuckian geese, heard frogs acroakin.

Roch, you didn't eMail us back (at least we didn't get a return eMail) so we figured we had spooked ya ;^) We've met Michael mikeymac and he's totally cool! He's *gotta* be there! He mentioned something "how about making a date to view the Leonoids together. Let's invite any other GI's in the area to join us, if you like." Yes! There's a very interesting self-described TB2K "polly" who wants to do lunch -- we eMailed him about this, haven't heard back yet. Is it the pizza that's scary?

We must have a Gathering :-) Figure we can hoot 'n catcall 'n opinionate at each other during this upcoming NBC Y2K Movie ;-) What a great way to break the ice! And somebody PLEASE bring the Nike commercial. That sounds like a keeper. We have a small TV w/ video player we can bring.

Trying to figure out a location where we can all cackle together and not get arrested LOL. A communal TV sorta place. Any ideas? NOT a bar, and NO smoking! Could be a munchie potluck. We make a tasty guacamole. Chips mandatory *wicked grin*

Maybe we should reserve a room at a restaurant, like Izzy's (has all-you-can-eat pizza, salad bar, soups, BBQ, deserts, etc), and bring our own TV. We have a small TV, but it works. Maybe somebody has a bigger one they'd want to bring? Any ideas?

Start brainstorming! The NBC Movie (if they dare show it), and ya know it's gonna have a Saved The Day ending, is supposed to be Sunday night, November 21. Don't happen to know what time yet.

Any other ideas appreciated. Any and all TB2K & csy2k lurkers 'n posters, polly, doomer, hams, spams, & families welcome. If you're interested, we know some oldies from here we could eMail and alert. There's a buncha real responsible interesting .mil folks, hope they're not out drilling then.

We are not familiar with groovy meeting places around NW Oregon/SW Washington, so start posting your favorite hang-outs! Time's a fleeting, let's be a meeting, nothing to lose, laughs sure to gain.

There are LOTS of Cascadians in these here shadows, and YOU ARE ALL MOST WELCOME!

Runway Cat, you too! Please de-lurk and see this.

Anybody know a great Chinese restaurant that would allow a buncha nuts to reserve a room for a Sunday evening and watch what they want on TV (theirs or ours)? Do y'all like Chinese? Should we find a "flaming entree" digs? Heeheeheheheh, maybe we should theme this. If anybody has any suggestions, even if not Cascadian, go ahead and give us some ideas. If these Y2K Movie Parties broke out everywhere amongst Yourdynamites, it would make the next Monday's "Server Busy" message understandable ;^)

Hmmm...550 mile roundtrip is a bit of a stretch. But, if A & L can conjure RC and KOS, maybe I can find a transporter. Or, a benefactor with a plane ticket ;-D

RC used to be in Oregon, and it is rumored KoS has a bunker in Cascadia. Hhhhmmmm. RUOK, if you can :-)

Suggestion....Toy Sun in Orchards....very good food, TV and while it allows smoking....I will go outside.

West of 205, just off 503.

Hmmmmm. A& L, I will have to try that e-mail address again: I've sent a few messages all in favor of a meet. Orchards is not too far out of the way ... any other suggestions?

-- Roch Steinbach (rochsteinbach@excite.com), November 15, 1999.

Thanks, Ez! *looking up Orchards on map*

I have always wanted to ask: where is Cascadia anyway? I am assuming it is nowhere near Dallas.........

BTW, long-time poster here....though I've found, oddly, that I picked a generic enough name to not be recognized too much....maybe that is a good thing?

Have fun, it sounds like it will be a blast!
