THE WHITE HOUSE STRATEGY ON Y2K

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Hopefully, most of you have had a chance to listen to the McAlvaney report and then Gordon McDonald's own report on his visit to the Symposium. If you haven't, listen. It confirms what most of us have been feeling all along and give you something powerful to share with dgi friends.

However, I did feel it was important to highlight several things (which I am sure many of us knew but you can share it with your DGI friends and remember it next year when we look for scapegoats):

THE NAVAL WAR COLLEGE ADVISED THE WHITE HOUSE TO BE TRANSPARENT WITH THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ON THE ISSUE OF Y2K

THE WHITE HOUSE SAID, "NO THANKS, WE'LL DO IT OUR WAY" AND MADE A CONSCIOUS EFFORT (ACCORDING TO THE JOURNALIST) TWO YEARS AGO TO DO ANYTHING THAT WAS NECESSARY TO KEEP THE AMERICAN PUBLIC FROM PANICKING.

ACCORDING TO THE JOURNALIST THERE WAS A GENERAL PERCEPTION AMONG THE PARTICIPANTS THAT IT IS TOO LATE TO MAKE THE AMERICAN PUBLIC AWARE OF Y2K. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TIME NOR ENOUGH RESOURCES FOR THEM TO PREPARE WITHOUT INCITING PANIC.

He is going to report more on the details presented in the conference in his next report but I am not waiting. After listening this morning I am writing up a summary and mailing them out today!!

part of doing it their way is to contruct a 40 million dollar Y2K bunker 2 blocks from the white house...

Hey, it ain't a 'bunker'/ It's a basement. It's a bunker only if you are a liberty loving patriot.

Being one of the audio challenged on my older Mac, does anyone know it that report was ever transcribed?

Thanks,

Diane

Brand new awesome iMac only $999. Make sure it comes loaded with OS9. Go for it!

They keep getting more-RAM, more-HD, faster, & less expensive.

Our August 98 still works great! The original RevA bondi :-)

Diane, there's a bunch of summaries typed in on various threads. If you read the threads, you don't need the audio.

It is nice to have the audio capability. Just installed it last week. This Forum is the best!

Links here:

If you are a pollyanna check this real audio out. If you are a doomer and you want to re-enforce your beliefs that Y2K is for real, you too must listen. This is the biggest thing to come out on Y2K that I have EVER seen. BIGGER THAN THE NAVY REPORTS

snooze button,

Thanks but last time I checked, real.com doesn't even post anymore, the download version I need (2--I think), to run on my "older" pre- PowerPC Mac.

Ashton & Leska,

Choice... new iMac or a mountian bicycle? Guess what I'll choose.

;-D

(Hint: physical mobility over the digital kind).

Thanks Ashton & Leska for that link.

More has been added there since I last looked.

Nothing the TBY2K regulars didn't already "know." Nice to have the "outside" confirmation though. (Sans trolls).
