Y2K Self-Monitoring Questioned

A report out this week claims that the current crop of Y2K self- reporting by various governments around the world should be taken with a pinch of salt.

The report, from International Monitoring, says that, unless a government's claim on Y2K issues in its own country is backed up by hard evidence, then it should be discounted.

Nick Gogerty, a senior consultant with the company, said that many countries may have come to terms with Y2K too late. In 1998, he said, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) compiled a list of countries it considered to be late in undertaking Y2K fix efforts.

In light of this, International Monitoring says that, according to recent countries self reported findings, the speed with which Y2K issues have been resolved in these countries, has been nothing less than incredible. "Incredible results," the research firm says, should be viewed with skepticism.

According to Gogerty, International Monitoring does not wish to implicate any countries in maliciously wrong reporting, but would like to see the findings substantiated with more evidence by the countries posting the figures.

"Our recommendation to our clients, both corporate and government, has always been to seek third party independent verification for Y2K fixes. We recognize the difficulty in doing this, but using metrics of money and many hours relative to Y2K sensitive systems in situ is a good starting place," he said.

How exactly is this different than the assurances - backed up by nothing - from our own Washington DC bureaucrats?

'nuff said.

Jolly doesn't believe OUR government, either.

Me either Jolly. I think "incredible results" fits he FAA, among others, very well.

Oh well, I guess I'll just sit back and wait for Hoff to come and defend the FAA now...

Tick... Tock... <:00=

Sysman, thank you for your diligence. The article is unsettling at best. There is so much distraction going on in the forum right now, I hope people who need/should see this actually find it.

;-) Please continue on your quest to find relevant and informative information, I always look forward to them.

Yes "relevant" I agree, it is important, so...

To the top! <:)=
