Monopoly Money??????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I was really considering cashing out my bank account, however I can't rationalize away this thought....if y2k is only half of what doomers are saying---money is going to be worthless anyways...furthermore, there will be nothing to buy...If the supply chain is crippled all stores will have nothing on their shelves. So this is why I am keeping my money in the so called "bubble".

For those who have cashed out--don't worry if you ever run out of fire wood or toilet paper those $1.00's, 5's, 10's, 20's 50's 100's will come in real handy.

There is no risk leaving your money in the bank. Please, someone tell me what the risk is leaving my money in the bank????? AND REMEMBER if Y2k is a 5 or higher the paper will be worth more than the money itself!

Cash is King anywhere between a 4 and an 8. 9 or above and you might be right. But at least I have my cash where I can feel it.

Just what is wrong with (not) trusting a bank?? I don't get it?

(You know, it is really refreshhing to see someone that has no regard for reason or common sense at all. (sarcasm off)

To say that you have nothing to lose because your money will be worthless anyway is idiotic. You have the opprtunity NOW, to exchange it for something that will have value.)

Please, someone tell me what the risk is leaving my money in the bank?????

(It would do little good to try to tell you. You are an obvious imbecile. if you had any concern at all that the money would be worthless or that there would be nothing to buy, you can readily see that it must be converted beforehand. But, i am quite sure that your remaining two synapses, firing randomly will not be able to figure that out.)

That is exactly the reason why I never considered that dumb idea of taking my money out of the banks.

But ironically, Doomers have little faith, even in their own theories.

Oh yeah, btw, Paul Milne is a fucking asshole!

Tell you what. If you leave your money in the bank, I will promise, notarized in writing, to reimburse you if you lose it, in whatever form you choose (of equal value). In exchange, you promise me in writing to give it to me if you still have access to it.

Deal? Why not?

You dont have any money in the bank, you have a digital promise of money. Now, during and after, dollars or gold will be accepted by somebody for something, your banks digital promise wont be.

He didn't say it well, and he didn't say it right, but I kinda know what he means. The moment of absolute certainty never comes.

I figured, if the money brought home became worthless, - then, so was everybody else's. But, if money kept a value, and mine was in the bank and, I couldn't get it out - I lose.

Whether money kept a value, or not, - I knew mine wouldn't be in bank.

Now, If I KNEW money wouldn't have a value, I would not have one penny left. I would have spent every penny on supplies (not preps for disaster (my preps are done) - supplies for a different kind of life - fertilizer, nails, more seeds, lumber, -endless list.)

Since I don't know - I kept a foot on each side of the fence.

This is for the polly.. You don't have any idea what is going to happen. So as you are a KID YOUR SELF. Go play with your n-64. It rates your grade level.... As for the person that is asking the ?.. I have worked for many banks and they are as troubled as we are.... to tell you to take your money out of the bank I/we can't make that decision.. But I am leaving very little in my bank... The Banks are not quite as far along as they would like you to think..... GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR MONEY....

Logically speaking if this y2k hits as seen here then the logical conclusion is: 1. Money has no value it is not based on gold or silver anymore. 2. Confidence holds up the value of money that is faith. 3. It can become worthless overnight.

It became clear to me take the money and buy gold and silver coins now you have the new money. For if it should go to thise extreem precious metals will gain in value as have happened in the past. Better than worthless paper anyday!!!!

Paul-- Actually, I am very logical person--that is why I am leaving my money and investments where they are. You just don't get it do you? If it gets to the point that people can't get there money out of the bank (for more than a couple of weeks), the entire economy will fall(odds are slim for that happening).

I'm not going to convert all my assets into gold, land etc. because there is a .0001% chance that y2k is going to be HUGE diaster. It's not worth it. Don't get me wrong I will have a 30 day supply of cash in case there are some glitches.

If I was dumb for not converting my cash--I will be dealing with a lot larger problem than losing all my money. There will be an all out battle here in the states.

Paul, it seems like you have a real "nitch" for name calling and downgrading people becasue there opinon is different than yours. Well, than again not everyone has leadership qualities. If you think the Sh*t is going to hit the fan--I hope your able to dig deep inside your soul for some type of leadership qualities.

If you act this way when people are just exchanging ideas I hate to see how you would act in a economic diaster. I hope in the future your able to learn how to agree to disagree.
