PLEASE don't feed the pollyannas!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Why do any of you try to convince the pollys that they might be wrong and that even if they aren't, that those who prepare are ready for any sort of disruption that may occur at CDC (solar flares, domestic unrest, cyberterrorism, foreign terrorism, armageddonists, et al.)? Becoming prepared isn't cheap, but peace of mind is worth a whole lot. Save your breath, focus your energy on the issue at hand--survival.

Survival is a shareable commodity.

Does anybody know where Hardliner's 'The Doomers Are Losing' thread is? Replies to trolls are taking up more space than replies to solid information about Y2k do. 'Doomers' will lose if they spend their time debating pollies and trolls.

Find verifiable information about Y2k that we can all use.....

I think the pollies serve a very useful function actually. For those of us who are taking this event very seriously, the pollies are a valuable "punching bag". Most of us have been ridiculed by people in our lives because of our attitudes and I'm sure the more subtle of us "doomers" are not in the habit of telling our friends and families what a bunch of apathetic dolts they are. Thus the pollies are a good direction in which to vent spleen. I love 'em!

doomers won't lose the fight because the fight has not yet begun. this forum is not Y2K. the forum may suffer, but preparedness will become the final arbiter.

Solar flares? You mean the sun is not Y2k compliant?

sol brings up a good point, sorta...

This forum will never die because there will always be alot of fear mongering, paranoid freaks to keep it going long after 1/1/00 has come and gone.

Have fun with your little BBS. It's to the point where I am bored making fun of you losers, and that is saying quite a bit because I am normally easily amused.

I agree it's a good idea not to respond to childish posts, regardless of their orientation. But if your ideas are challenged, you should be able to defend them, or how good are they? And in that defense, you'll find your ideas (if they're good ones) better understood and better supported. Ideas need exercise if they're not to be flabby.
