2/98 USMC in middle of five-year "Sea Dragon" advanced warfighting experiment (AWE) to evaluate new concepts, tactics, techniques, procedures and technologies. First phase "Hunter Warrior" (tactical ops on a dispersed, non-contiguous battlefield; enhanced command and control; and enhanced fire support and improved targeting); second phase "Urban Warrior" (evaluate Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT) tactics such as 'thrust', 'penetration' and 'swarm'); and, third phase "Capable Warrior" (links two AWE experiments and covers organizational concepts, command and control, structural concepts and warfighting concepts)...said the General.

Compare our news reports in the SF Chronicle. The Urban Soldiers performed at Oakland, CA last year, I think. What really made the nerves in my stomach pinch were the reasons for the exercises varied in the reports. Take a guess at the truth. M

As far as purpose, our military does real well fighting in the countryside...but not so well in the cities. Since a terrorist or similar group chooses where THEY want to fight, they will try to fight where it is most difficult for the US military (urban environments). Therefore, the US military has been looking at the problems of improving performance in the urban scenarios.
