OT: Clock on PC is jumping around.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Have been experiencing this problem for 3 days now. The clock jumps ahead an hour and when I try to reset it will not accept correct time. Then it corrects itself and then jumps ahead again! If I am correct, you cannot set the wrong time, so the source it is coming from must be wonky. Or is it just my PC, and if so, any ideas how to fix it? Thanks :)

Sounds like a time-zone problem. Simply proceed eastward with your PC to the next time-zone so that the displayed time will be correct.

" so the source it is coming from must be wonky"

Are you on a LAN? If so, walk over to the network administrators desk, and mention Daylight Savings Time. Wait for Dope Slap. Walk away knowing you have done a good deed.

If you have a free-standing PC, you have a peculiar problem. I suspect someting about it doesn't like DST. Did you notice this problem before we Fell Back?

My comments should not be confused with those of a competent person.

BTW, KoS, I like your idea better. But in my case, my feet would get wet...

You have obviously confused your PC with a time-machine. Turn the time-machine back on, stare at the screen and wait until you are whisked back to 1981, call your stock broker and BUY BUY BUY1!!!

My PC--an HP and new--is running slow clockwise. Everything else works, so I just keep resetting it.

Mara, have you tried running it counter-clockwise?

(sorry, I just couldn't resist...)

Tommy, My comment reflected the fact I'm on the east coast of the US. This makes KoS's sugeestion somewhat impractical...

At midnight when daylight savings switched back to standard time, my PC notified me it was resetting the clock and asked me to confirm. OK.

At 1 A.M. I got the same message. OK (but I was wondering...)

At 2 A.M. I got the same message again. Really weird. Now the clock reads 2 hours off. I went to bed and set the clock in the morning. No problems since.

Thanks for the amusing answers! Stupid thing seems to have stopped doing it now. No, I am not on a LAN, and problem was only within last few days. Damn technology...
