Interstate Shipment of Firearms

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

During a move interstate, I inadvertently left behind several rifles. A friend has retrieved them, and is holding on to them for me until I can arrange to get them back.

The problem is, it's too far to drive conveniently. Does anyone know whether these can be shipped to me? If so, are there any restrictions we'd need to handle?

Thanks.

In order to send firearms via UPS or Fedex, one of you needs to be an authorized shipper of firearms. Since that's probably not so, you can get an authorized store to either ship it or receive it. They probably can provide the authorized letter. You might check where you bought them from to see if they will help. Obviously, you can't ship ammo with the firearms and the carrier needs to know that these are firearms when they pick them up. For further info call 1-800-GO- FEDEX or call UPS. You may also check with other carriers or a private courier service, etc.

We had a firearm shipped to our local gun dealer then we picked it up there. Maybe you could do this?

Go to and look for their list of Firearms dealers who will accept shipment for you. Contact one near you and ask what they'll charge. Usually pretty reasonable. Good Luck!
