Which is better, Dazzle's DVC or Studio MP10?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I am thinking of buying an MPEG capture device to make Video CDs. Dazzle's DVC seems to be good, but Studio MP10 may also work well. Could someone advise me on selecting one of them? I use WinOnCD for burning CDRs. Thank you.

I am using Dazzle DVC USB version. I created few VCD's from DVD's . Results are fairly impressive.

Those two capture devices you mentioned are straight-to-MPEG capture devices and are well known to produce so-so quality VCDs, and this is on a fairly fast PC with all the works, etc. With a little less luck you will create wretched-quality VCDs, especially if your source is a noisy VHS tape. What level of quality do you want? Mr S Singla says he got fairly good VCD quality and that is probably because his source was DVD. Steer clear off those two things. Get something else, like Matrox Marvel G400, capture to straight avi (MJPEG-compressed avi, in case of the G400), then encode later to MPEG. The results will be there for you to see. Capturing to avi and encoding later is very tedious and that's what you will sooner or later find out. But capturing straight to MPEG with any good level of quality will start to costs thousands, far from the street prices you will have to pay for Dazzle or MP10. You read the rest of this forum as well and a lot of ground has been covered on this.

I have a Dazzle USB version. Summarizing Mr. Martinez' comment : Spend the time or spend the money if you want a good VCD !. The Dazzle quality is OK. My biggest complaint is the audio gets out of sync after a long recording session ( about 30 min ) to the point that it becomes annoying and funny !.

I bought the dazzle first and used it right away and was so happy but when i played it, the sound was not synch to the video, it's probably the audio out is coming from the sound card so I run to fry's and exchanged it w/ mp10. I've just missed changing the parallel to epp but after that, it was all great. I can play other vcd out right to the tv, video is smooth and sound is great.

Thanks, everyone. I will try DVC and see how it works.

I purchased a Pinnacle MP10. I HATED the fact that it wouldn't work originally. It was a conflict with the resources-- even though the resource manager does not show you a yellow circle!

I had to REMOVE my sound card-- then connect the device; once it was working, I plugged my sound card back in and disabled the "SHARE WITH LP1" option (only for sound blaster cards).

After that, it worked great! I create fairly well mpegs, but GREAT avi files. the smart sound (music generator) is fantastic!

You DO have to be a computer guru to get this thing working! It works 80% of the time I want it to, the other times I have to restart it. If ANYONE has an mp10, don't BELIEVE the "easiest way to make home videos" garbage. It's just not true; but if you have one and need help, email me.

The software for MP10 is horrible, won't work on many computers.
