My take on Jim Lords 'confession'

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

As a retired US Navy Senior Enlisted man, it makes me sick to see a retired Naval Officer like this.

Some memorable quotes, my remarks in brackets:

"Spike Dates. My most impressive blunder was the notion of Spike Dates (or trigger Dates as some have called them. Am I ever sorry I came up with that idea. What I thought was a powerful concept bursting with explanatory power was mostly just wishful thinking Im afraid."

[Wishful thinking; same doom zombie bullshit. Wishful thinking, that the big collapse is upon us, but danggit, it didn't happen! So much for wishful thinking for your doomsday scenario, Jimbo]

"My analysis fell short because it didnt account for the technical facts."

[Wow, lets repeat that]

My analysis fell short because it didnt account for the technical facts.

[Say that out loud 15 times before you start rubbing your brain cells together and writing again, Dum...I mean Jimbo. Amazing, isn't it? It really strikes me that this is the problem with the whole doomer philosiphy, not accounting for the 'technical facts'. Its more like "Wishful thinking" than a careful analysis of the 'technical facts'. Seems like everyone that has done a careful analysis of the 'technical facts' comes to the conclusion that theres about 5% meat and 95% bullshit surrounding the while Y2k issue. More than one of them, including North, Milne, et. al have said that they hope Y2k would be the vehicle to bring down 'the system' that they hate, so it could be replaced with something more to their liking. Wishful thinking indeed.]

"Y2K concern is now solidly under lock and key. I expect this to continue until one of two developments occurs. First, big splashy computing failures occur that affect lots of people in public ways. Secondly, we see an outbreak of whistle blowers from government and big business. Actually, Im hearing rumors about this last possibility. Im not ready to report it quite yet but keep your eyes and ears open for stories in the main stream press about programmers coming out of the closet. I hear they are realizing that not enough time remains to get done while the PR machines keep saying everything is OK."

[More "wishful thinking", based on another failure to "account for the technical facts. Snap out of it, get a clue. Mr. Lord, try wishing in one hand and crapping in the other. That will give you a good solid lesson on the difference between reality and bullshit]

Gosh, Z, you plagiarized this from Jon Guirl on Debunking. Or are you actually Jon?

Retired U.S. Naval Senior Enlisted man? No retired Navy senior enlisted descibes him- or herself that way. He or she says "Senior Chief," or whatever.

more IP info cross-posted by the doomers. Get a life, willya?

(taken to answering your own posts, Git? I liked your "outingsr" personae better.)

Typical of the doomers......just like when the stock market goes up.....silence.

Jim Lordoftheflies does the waffle dance, and the doom zombies not only don't say anything.....they try and distract and bury the threads that DO discuss it.

Guess they are afraid of losing converts to the cult.

Why are you pollys wasting your time here if Y2K is such a hoax? You seem a little desperate to me. Are you getting nervous???
