Storage of camera equipment

What is the proper way to store camera equipment when not shooting to prevent fungus growth? I have been storing mine with silica gel in a styrofoam case with the lid tightly closed. Again this is for short term storage when not using.

Basically fairly low humidity with normal room temperature.

Silica gell will do the low humidity, IF the package is fairly well sealed. Try zip lock bags with silica packets for longer term storage.

Nick, what you have seems fine, provided you have bags of silica gel in it and change them regularly. An alternative to silica gel is those chemical dehumidifier in plastic containers which will last for months. If you live in a place with a hot climate, don't seal you equipment in air-tight zip-lock bags. I don't know the chemistry, but it seems that the heat and lack of circulating air will degrade the rubber parts on your equipment and the light-seal foam in the camera--the rubber will crumble to bits while the foam will melt into a sticky mess.
