Hi all -

I'm pretty new to forums, although I've been trying to prepare for y2k for a year now. Internet challenged, or some such thing.

Anyway, I have a few questions, but I guess I'll keep them separate so we don't tangle too many threads.

I'm looking for an adult-sized tricycle, preferably with mountain bike-type tires. My balance isn't good enough for a bike, to say nothing of the fact that I'm on a gravel road and would prefer to take corners on three wheels. Any ideas?

Your best bet would probably be to check with a good bicycle shop. They may still be able to order one. I do believe that most three-wheelers have fat tires.

Peg - Great News! I have been looking for the same thing and found 2 wonderful, moderately priced adult tricycles on the WalMart website. Look under sporting goods. They run around $250 - $300, one of them has gears. Hope this helps, good luck

If you can, try one out before you buy it. I bought one of these at an auction and hated it, because they're very hard to balance. The bikes have a tendency to tip over on curves, and they're very hard to turn. It might be better if you have balance problems to put training wheels on a regular bike.

I'll definitely have to try one out before buying it - if it tends to tip over on curves, I sure won't have accomplished what I set out to do. The mental picture of a 50+-lady riding a bike with training wheels is almost too much to contemplate, but then again I'm not making my preparations with my image in mind!

Electric is probably way out of my price range, but there's no harm in checking . . . .

Hi Peg,

I have MS and have little balance. I bought a three wheeler with a large basket in back of the seat between the wheels. It has three speeds. I got it at a local bike shop.

It was incredible to again be on a bicycle. I will be 49 next week. I rode around the block three times laughing and squealing. I haven't felt that way for a decade or so. Recommended for anyone with balance problems. Lots of fun. Good also for hauling five gal colapsible water containers from the lake.
