Story Filed: Tuesday, November 09, 1999 3:27 AM EST

MOSCOW, November 9 (Itar-Tass) - The isolation system of Russia's Kursk nuclear power plant shut down its second reactor on Tuedsay.

Causes of the shutdown are being elucidated. There have been no emission of radioactivity or change in the radiation background in and around the plant, a spokesman for Rosenergoatom nuclear energy company told Itar-Tass.

The Kursk plant has four operating VVER-1000 reactors, and the fifth is in construction.

Exercises were held at the plant on Novemver 1, watched by independent experts, to meet the computer glitch problem of the new millenium.
