Duh-2000 8 Weeks And Counting

This morning while standing in line at the post office, a very old lady noticed the USPS Countdown to 2000 sign blinking off the seconds, and she started laughing about how silly the whole Y2K thing was. She was giggling and said she didn't believe any of it. When I asked, "What about the gasoline shortages next year?", she started giggling again. Then I mentioned how there was a mass denial among the general populace. She giggled again and proudly proclaimed she was one of them. I said northwestern Ohio had a large ostrich population. Then she giggled some more and walked out of the USPS lobby.

That old lady doesn't have a clue. She is confident that Y2K is a hoax. Her simplistic arrogance was annoying. I don't believe she will listen to the facts. I don't believe she's prepared at all.

How would you deal with an old DGI who makes light of Y2K?

Accept the 'Y2K Challenged' for what they are ... Perhaps help shovel her sidewalk in January, so she can reach the bus that will be taking her to the shelter.

Too bad if what I say is not "politically correct", but here's my answer: We will have to all divert our energies/food to those who have had the least chance/capability to prepare--that means children, those poor souls who have to run two jobs just to make ends meet, etc.

Ihave ZERO sympathy for some "old lady", who, I assume, was around long ago to hear stories from very close friends, if not experience first-hand, the last Great Depression. At the very least, she has had an entire LIFETIME to learn what counts, and what is common sense. So what has she learned?

There are MILLIONS out there who are dumbed-down into a vegetative stupor by TV and the other "necessities" of our modern society. They are too lazy or prejudiced to investigate seriously any major issues facing them or the nation today.

I would not be shovelling her walk. Better to save your valuable energy for those who have the best hopes of "carrying on".

profit:

If I had to choose between feeding that old lady or any young child, the former would starve so the latter could live. I'm not politically correct. Of course, then the old lady in revenge might conceivably report me to the authorities to screw me over.

However, I might never see that old lady again. It's about time for numerous senior citizens to make their annual migration to Floridian homes for the Winter season.

And if Y2K gets extremely nasty, she'll be stuck down there waiting for the Red Cross to deliver some bottled water. Hope she retains her sense of humor...

Ignore them. They are on Darwins list. He will council them.
