Rooster is sick

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Our rooster, a Lane Shank breed, is sick. He stumbles around, he doesn't crow at all, and sometimes he will hold his beak open for a minute like he can't get enough air. I am very new to raising poultry and I need all the information that I can get.

Have you noticed any bloody droppings? Loose and/or bloody droppings could be a sign of coccidiosis. This MAY be part of your rooster's problem. There are good medications available. (I use the type that can be mixed with drinking water). Let me know how you make out in finding out what's wrong. DAN
