Some dirty words (apologies to the Webmaster)

And now that we've agreed to this grand and righteous tax cut, can you all say the following dirty words, soon to be uttered freely in public places 'round Washington: STATE INCOME TAX.

The state of Washington had an income tax effective February 1933, people damn near went to blows and revolt for its repeal and cancellation. I suggest fighting words at the mere mention of a state income tax. BTW our Sales tax too is a privilege excise tax as declared in the laws of 1933. That should be a hint of your status, how is it that it could be a privilege to be in or live in Washington?? If you persue the problems of issue that 695 can expose you'd best keep your powder dry.

While STATE INCOME TAX may be "freely uttered," it will not be enacted.

I already suggested something like "The property and sales tax reduction initiative", for next year. We can have the creation of a state income tax in the fine print, to replace them.

Seriously, it actually would benefit residents of the state if more of the state taxes were deductable on the federal income tax return. For those that itemize (that's for Craig) a substantial portion of the state income tax would actually be recovered as a reduction in the federal income tax. We pay more than we should to the federal government, as it is now. I believe a state income tax that is a specific percentage of the federal tax would be simple to administer, and not require another IRS type organization and a lot of new forms.
