I.S. Director needs some help

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I got this note from someone ...

"I was wondering if you have stumbled over any active place on the net where computer consultants are exchanging problems and ideas for resolving Y2K issues.

As an I.S.Director for a company, I still have several loose ends to tie up that I'd like to share with people of similar ilk. Any links you could provide would be very much appreciated, Thank you."

Individual is with XXXXXXX Electrical, Municipal, Copper&Fiber Network Construction Co.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this guy?

It is too surreal for me. The questions now being asked that should have been on the agenda two years ago. If I wasn't going to have to go through this with everyone else I would be laughing. As it is, I just feel numb.

I know this should have been done previously. Nonetheless, this was a serious request, and I'd like to help the guy out. But I have no idea if there's a serious problem solving forum for computer consultants or IT/IS management on the net. And if there are any ... where they would be.

Talk to the pollies. His concerns are overblown according to them. They will calm him down.

tell them to try

www.PhilMcKraken.com

This site is frequented by Y2K experts like Ben Dover, Jack Meoff, and Craven Morehead

If these guys can't help, then it may be to late.

He or she should go to deja.com or a newsbrowser/server a do a search for the language(s) or system(s) to determine if there is an appropriate Usenet newsgroup. Lots of clueless IS types asking questions and trying to tie-up loose end that should have been addressed long ago. He or she will fit right in.

Cheryl

As mentioned above the Usenet groups have information but you have to dig for it. Try the link below, it is the best way to search the newsgroups.

Infoseek Advanced Search: Usenet Power Search

Brian,

That infoseek Usenet search link is exactly the same as the advanced search feature on deja.com. There's nothing magic about it.
