greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Thanks to all of you who posted on this forum with an email address, or sent me an email, volunteering to be a "reviewer" of one of my most difficult chapters. Many thanks as well, to all of you who have been so supportive behind the scenes.

This is a tough subject! Thank God for dIETER!

Check your emails. That chapter--and more--is now online.

Thanks again.

P.S. Only a couple of offers to review so far, from semi-regulars at the so-called "Debunkie" forum. In the interest of fairness, I am hoping for more.

I find the whole idea of a book of "amusing anecdotes" about Y2k inappropriate in the extreme. I am not surprised that only debunkies want to read it. Maybe 10 years from now it will be funny. For now Y2k is either terrifying or a non-issue depending on your point of view.

The whole idea is appalling and reeks of an astonishing lack of compassion. Not to mention sheer greed.

I'm sorry, I disagree about the inappropriateness of a humourous view of Y2K. Maybe it's twenty-plus years of a GI's gallows humor about military issues good and bad.

Maybe it warped me. But I can laugh at stories of military screw-ups and at stories like the Y2Ker whos dry ice-packed rice and beans blew a hole in his garage roof. But neither affects or affected my ability to deal with the seriousness of the task at hand; be it getting our family through Y2K or putting bombs on target with a Phantom.

I look forward to finding a copy of the book. Seeing how things looked during the darkest hours with a humourous point of view should be interesting and funny.
