Oddly enough, I have yet to experience a Y2K failure....

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

My bank hasn't sent out any weird notices, my insurance company hasn't tried to reposses my car, my wife hasn't tried to divorce me for forgetting our anniversary, my boss hasn't tried to fire me, and my cats still love me. I want a failure!!!!

Count your blessings, while they last.

If you are in a rush personally to experience a Y2K failure, you may just have to wait your turn, but probably not for very much longer.

Don't be so impatient! People with weak observation skills will be the last to notice. Bless you!

I just had a Y2K failure. I went to the store to buy a Herseys candy bar and they were out. This Y2K think is getting bad. Today no candy, next no power?

Last week, my credit card company called to verify I was going to make a payment. Highly unusual, seeing they called the day before to ask the same question. When I asked them what was going on, the lady said their computers crashed and they had lost all their customer payment history information. She sounded HIGHLY stressed over the phone. When I asked if it was Y2K related, she immediately went into PR mode and assured me it was not.

This week, I attempted to use my atm card in the check-out line at the grocery story. After 4 failed attempts to get the cash register electronic payment system to work, I was forced to use the atm machine in the store instead. (Cost me an extra $3.00 after adding up the atm charge and my bank charge for using another bank's atm machine.) This was the first time I've ever experienced a cash register electronic payment system being down.

It's just a matter of time before it all fails to work. Then what are you going to do if you don't have cash? Leave your groceries at the checkout?

Look for hand-made signs in the windows of your grocery story:

"WE ACCEPT CASH ONLY" "NO CHECKS OR CREDIT CARDS PLEASE"

Look for hand-made signs in your local bank window:

"Electronic payment and withdrawal services temporarily OUT OF SERVICE"

"Withdrawals limited to $500 or less, per account number."

"We accept CASH ONLY payments."

"We're sorry for this temporary inconvenience"

Be prepared, the only person to blame for not being prepared is yourself.

Damn the iceberg, I mean Y2K bug, FULL STEAM AHEAD!!!

Last week my paycheck was delayed by about 6 hours due to problems with new accounting software being installed to replace non-compliant software. My company worked together with an outside vendor to remedy the problem quickly.

Total impact: 0

I work for a small business that could have issued checks manually if the payroll software had not been quickly fixed.

One of my reason for moving to my current employer earlier this year was to be in smaller organization that could adopt manual procedures if the normal means of getting business done were not immediately available.

So far, so good.

Had to hire a CPA to handle preparation of a estate tax return, on the CPA's retainer letter he states "This firm does not provide services, advice or consultation regarding the potential problem concerning the ability of computers to correctly handle dates beginning in the year 2000 (popularly known as "year 2000" or "Y2K"). I have been collecting for the hell of it, newspaper clippings, and admit the banks, utility companies have all sent notices with their bills in regards to Y2K. This is all called Cover Your Ass.

If you want to see them, move to Buenos Aires. That city will be closing its bids for Y2K consulting on 11/22/Ninety-Nine.

I've had more than one...

Scheduling software failure would not allow scheduling events/processes past the end of the year.

Scheduling software at my Dr. Office would not permit appointments to be scheduled after the end of the year.

Multiple payroll problems with new (y2k compiant) payroll system.
