Purple (Pink) strip down center length of negs

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

It dosen't happen all the time but once in a while I will get a purple cast or at times a 1"(220 film)streak running the entire length of my negs. I am consistant in the developing process and can't figure out what I am doing differently. Any suggestions???

Hi Ken, It sounds like a fixation problem to me. Try using fresh fixer and leaving the neg in it for couple minutes longer.

Use a film-strength (1:3) rapid fixer and fix 3-6 mins (75F-65F) with _continuous agitation_.

After fixing, use a wash aid, 2-3 mins _continuous agitation_.

Then wash etc as normal.

That you have a streak on the negs indicates probably an adequate fix time but insufficient agitation.
